Building proposal on school agenda

Friday, October 6, 2023

McCOOK, Neb. – The McCook School Board of Education will hear an update on the proposed construction of a new junior high school at Monday’s regular meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Junior High Conference Room.

Superintendent Grant Norgaard is expected to update board members on an Oct. 3 introductory meeting with potential construction companies where school staff presented an overview of the project and answered questions. A committee meeting will take place on Oct. 30, where members will review submissions from contractors interested in working on the project. The plan is to eliminate all but three or four of the submissions, with the remaining companies to be interviewed by the committee in early November.

Norgaard will also update the board on

• Feedback he obtained from the junior high teaching staff concerning the building project.

• The accreditation requirements under Rule 10 of the Nebraska Department of Education.

• Norgaard’s participation on the Nebraska Department of Education Commissioner’s Advisory Committee.

• School Improvement update.

• Possible protective window coverings.

In addition, the board will be introduced to members of the Bison Bass Fishing Team and will welcome new student board member, Jonathan Frank.

The board will also be asked to approve two student trips; one for FFA members to attend a national convention in Indianapolis, and another for a trip to the Dominican Republic for students to utilize their Spanish language skills and experience a different culture.
