Bison golfers almost escape triple digits in Ogallala
OGALLALA, Neb. — McCook’s Lainey Peters fired an even 100 and was only five strokes from challenging for an Ogallala Invitational medal on Tuesday.
The young Bison tied Cozad at 449 for 12th place in a field where 18 teams were represented.
Peters sliced off her front-nine score (52-48) with Bison teammate Hailey Beideck dropping two strokes to finish at 118.
Sophomore Kapri Loop shot 112 (52-60) for second among McCook golfers.
Freshman Paige Broomfield’s 119 (58-61) put the final touches on that Bison team total.
McCook outgolfed the Kimball Longhorns, who finished 22 strokes behind at 471.
Nielli Heinold’s 77 topped both the tourney field and runaway champion Scottsbluff.
Addie Peck delivered a runner-up performance of 85 which was two strokes lower than North Platte leaders Hailey Mathews and Caitlyn Lewis (both 87s).
North Platte was second at 365 ahead of oter top five teams Ogallala at 382, Holdrege at 393 and Chadron at 402.
Kennedy Bailey represented the Dundy County-Stratton golfers with a round of 102.
The Bison are golfing again today at Holdrege.
