Humane Society, new playground on City Council budget agenda Tuesday
McCOOK, Neb. — A request for funding from the McCook Humane Society and a proposal for an all-inclusive playground in Kelley Park are on the agenda for a McCook City Council budget meeting.
It is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers in the municipal building at West Fifth and C streets.
The McCook Humane Society requests a 5% increase, or $3,690 monthly payment to support the organization.
McCook Humane Society officials said 58% of the animals come from within the McCook city limits, and of 356 McCook pets, 119 or 70% are strays. “Based on our operating expenses related to McCook pets of $14,863, the city is only covering 32% of those costs. Thanks to our generous donors, we have been able to continue our mission without the city covering all of their costs.”
The organization is contacting other cities and counties regarding their support toward animals from those communities.
Maria Pierson will address the council regarding a proposed all-inclusive playground at Kelley Park.
The remainder of the meeting will be spent reviewing the proposed budget.
