Back-to-school, 40th celebration on chamber calendar

Friday, July 21, 2023

The theme of July’s meeting of McCook’s Chamber of Commerce, held Wednesday: upcoming events.

The biggest event on the upcoming schedule is the Back to School event, which is coordinated by the Chamber. The three-day extravaganza running August 3-5 will be held in a similar fashion to Crazy Days, where local businesses will display QR codes, which shoppers can scan to win prizes. The Chamber is offering rewards of $100 and $50 in Chamber Bucks, plus many businesses will be offering their own prizes for shoppers. More information on participants will be published in later back-to-school promotions.

To further add to the fun in the beginning of August, the Chamber is hosting the VK Electronics 40-Year Celebration Mixer at VK’s store. The celebration will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on August 3rd.

The Chamber also continued to plan an upcoming ribbon cutting and open house at the new pickleball courts at Russell Park. The event at the park is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2nd from 6-8 p.m.

The final event that was put on the schedule was the annual Heritage Days celebration, which is set for October 11-14. I personally thought this year’s theme was kinda corny, but the theme is… Kinda Corny. Yes, from corn, to cornhole, to corn dogs, to Cornhuskers, and much more, Heritage Days this year is entirely corn-themed. Those that aren’t fans of this year’s theme may say, “Oh, shucks”, but the event is always filled with something to do for everyone. More information will be released on the Chamber’s social media and website, including how to register for the parade or vendor show. For extra information or to sign up, visit the Chamber website or call or email at director@mccookchamber.org.

Chamber President Molly Smith finished recapping the meeting by confirming her resignation, which will come into effect on July 28th. The hiring process for the position is in full swing with many great applicants, as final decisions are currently being made.

The Chamber’s goal is to hire an applicant as Chamber President as soon as next week.
