McCook swimmers medaling into the fiinale on Saturday

FREMONT, Neb. —The McCook summer swim team is nearing the end of its season with summers participating in different meets across the state.

Several high school-age McCook swimmers headed to the Fremont YMCA this past weekend as part of the Cornhusker State Games, bringing home a few medals along the way.

Swimming in the long-course (50 meter lap) Fremont included Kevin Bantam of Curtis, Eli and Emma Graff, Derick Spencer and Jackson Blomstedt, all of McCook.

Bantam claimed several medals, including tying for third in the boys 15-18 100 meter freestyle with a time of 1:02.49. He earned a gold medal with a first place finish in the 100 meter breast with a time of 1:21.10. Jackson Blomstedt finished third with a time of 1:35.25.

Derick Spencer earned third in the boys 15-18 50 meter free race, posting a time of 28.13.

On the girls’ side, Emma Graff placed second in the girls 15-18 100 meter breast stroke in a time of 1:31.73.

She also teamed up with other swimmers at the event for a relay, placing second in the girls 15-18 400 meter medley relay for a time of 5:49.48.

Other McCook swimmers traveled to Hoxie, Kan., last Saturday for the qualifying meet as part of the Plains Tsunami League.

Claiming first place in their event and an automatic entry into the championships this Saturday in Oxford included Asher Bennet, 8, in the 50 free with a time of 45.43, the 25 back stroke in a time of 25.67 and the 25 free in 19.22.

Also qualifying for the championship meet by placing in the top 12 of their event for their age division are Emily Spencer in the 8-and-under girls 50 free, Cooper Davidson in the boys 8-and-under 50 free and Lily Spencer in the girls 12-and-under 100 free.

McCook will also be participating in the coed 12-and-under medley and free relays at the championship meet.
