Bison alum best in nation? CFB Report says yes indeed
McCOOK, Neb. — Gorillas from Pittsburg State can’t handle him while Slippery Rock stars probably have just a pebble’s chance of matching his standing.
Most everyone fighting in college football’s trenches should be looking up at McCook Bison alum Hunter Hays this week.
That’s because the College Football Network has named Hays No. 1 among all NCAA Division II offensive guards.
The 2018 McCook High is fresh off an All-American first team selection
He helped power the University of Nebraska-Kearney Antelopes through an 8-3 season last fall which continued another amazing feat:
The 6’3”, 315-pound Hays has never experienced a losing season.
Beginning with Class B playoffs every year for the Bison, Hays moved on to Fort Hays (Kan.) State where he started several games on an NCAA Division II playoff qualifier.
Makin’ Hays joined the UNK Antelopes in 2019 and that 7-5 season finished with a Mineral Water Bowl victory.
The 2020 COVID-wrecked season still featured UNK beating both Pittsburg and Chadron State to finish 2-0.
The 2021 Lopers were a 10-3 NCAA playoff team and just missed another appearance last fall.
Hunter is majoring in industrial distribution.
