Younger Rebels rolling along through sweep of Storm
McCOOK, Neb. — They’re chasing the older Rebels for most wins while plating runs faster than you can count birthday cakes so far this softball season.
The 14-and-under Rebels are now 11-5 following an impressive 14-10, 15-0 doubleheader sweep of McCook Storm Wednesday evening.
Coach Scott Smalley tested his rotator cuff as he waved Rebels again and again around third base to home plate.
They overcame a five-run Storm first inning with six runs during their decisive fourth frame.
The Rebels totaled 14 hits as Rylan Custard, Hailey Smalley, Ellie Havlicek, Mya Meixner, Pavyn Terry and Karagynn Brown equally divided a dozen of those.
Leadoff batter Custard was almost better than ice cream. She scored three runs as did Hailey Smalley
Hailey did even more Storm damage when she drove in two runs which matched Meixner’s two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Leighton Anderson and catcher Carlie Rupp added one hit apiece.
The Rebels prevailed despite Jaelyn Kuykendall’s three for three hitting leading her Storm.
Jackie Sattler smashed two more hits, scored twice and totaled two RBIs. Aalyiah Gonzales knocked in another two and Jayda Wood walloped two hits.
The Rebels reached 11 wins with their 15-0 shutout in Wednesday’s nightcap. They’re only one behind the 16-and-under Rebels who are 12-4-2.
Havlicek pitched two no-hit innings and Hannah Peterson scored twice.
