MNB Seniors beat Ogallala for capper on first weekend tourney

Tuesday, May 30, 2023

HASTINGS, Neb. — McCook National Bank’s Seniors outslugged Ogallala, 12-8, to win their finale at the Hastings Tournament Sunday afternoon.

The Seniors (1-5 record) showed super resiliency, shaking off 2-0, 4-1 and 6-5 deficits through those first three frames.

Coach Chris Conroy’s team finally took control during a five-run third inning.

Gabe Roberts drove home four huge runs while helping build the 10-6 MNB advantage.

Roberts and Quentin Terry both crushed triples.

Terry knocked in two more crucial runs.

Trenton Raile returned from a recent concussion to deliver two hits, an RBI and score three times.

Catcher Tristan Campbell both scored and drove home two runs apiece.

Carter Larson also scored twice which kept McCook a few steps ahead of rival Ogallala.

Bryson Gullion pitched 2 2/3 innings where he kept MNB within striking range.

Roberts hurled the final 2 1/3 innings, only allowing one more Ogallala hit.

Gullion added a hit, scored one and added one RBI-sacrifice fly.

The Seniors had dropped their first three games of this Hastings Tournament.

They fell 9-1 to Hastings Runza earlier on Sunday featuring just three MNB singles from Raile, Lincoln Michaelis and Coleton Lentz.

Gullion drove in one McCook run.

Runzas simply did not agree with McCook because Kearney Runza prevailed 13-2 on Saturday.

MNB’s only two runs arrived on impressive Terry solo home runs.

Miles Pollmann and Oliver Corbett singled for the only other McCook hits.

MNB lost its tourney opener, 10-1, against United Bank and Trust.

Pollmann doubled and eventually plated that one MNB run on a Raile RBI-single.

The Seniors hope some “home cookin’” will help this week since they play their first home game of 2023 vs. Gothenburg Melons Wednesday evening.

This Juniors-Seniors doubleheader starts at 5:30 p.m. Seniors’ first pitch wil be around 8.
