McCOOK, Neb. – Following a successful annual meeting and member mixer, the McCook Chamber is looking forward to new initiatives coming up throughout the summer.

Chamber President Molly Smith said plans are underway for two lunch-and-learn seminars, one dealing with computer training and the other one providing information on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. These seminars will take place in June and July.

Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, and Tanya Tucker will fit right in with the 2023 Crazy Days coming June 22 through the 24th. The theme is ‘70s country and will feature the traditional shopping experience with a passport-type contest where shoppers can become eligible for prizes. Dust off your Dodge Challenger and Pontiac Firebird because the Wagner Auto’s Cruisin’ the Bricks Cruise Night and Car Show will take place that same weekend on Saturday, June 24.

The Crazy Days promotion will be followed by a “Back To School” promotion on Aug. 3-5. The Back-To-School promotion will have the same ’70s country theme.

The chamber received just short of 50 nominations for the Educator of the Year Award with several educators being nominated more than once. After being nominated, educators are asked to fill out an application and then a chamber committee chooses the educator to be honored. The award will be presented at the winner’s school, hopefully sometime in May.

Tickets for Bash on the Hills will be available for chamber members beginning May 1. Member tickets will include admission to the concert, drink tickets, and a chamber koozie. Non-members can purchase admission tickets beginning May 15. Tickets for the June 16 bash are pre-sold for $15 and available at the door for a slightly higher price.

The Platinum Pearls from North Platte will be the opening band, followed by the headliner, The Traynr Band from Valley, Neb. The Traynr Band plays a mix of original music by singer-songwriter Tony Traynor and country favorites known everywhere.

The bash begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at Heritage Hills Golf Course, with overflow parking available at Red Willow County Fairgrounds and transportation between the two locations provided through McCook Public Schools.

A variety of food will be available at the bash through food trucks – Scratch, Carniceria CB, The Scoop Ice Cream, Pahulu’s, Fun House Creations, and For Dancers Only.

Upcoming events include two ribbon cuttings – Steve Lytle Fishing on May 8 at noon at the Keystone Business Center, and Surf’s Up Marine on May 24 at noon at their location at 909 US-83 in McCook. There will also be a quarterly chamber member meeting on June 8 at noon at McCook Christian Church.
