Let's make things more pleasant for our community

Thursday, April 13, 2023

Warm weather lures us outside, but we may be tempted to retreat back to the couch if we take too close a look at our homes and neighborhoods.

Every neighborhood seems to have a problem house, and if you look around and don’t see one, perhaps it’s yours!

Here are a few obvious reminders of what it takes to be a good neighbor:

Keep it clean: Encourage everyone to dispose of their trash properly and pick up litter. Make sure that public spaces, such as parks and sidewalks, are regularly cleaned.

Maintain properties: Encourage neighbors to keep their properties well-maintained and attractive. This can include keeping lawns mowed, planting flowers, and painting houses.

Address safety concerns: Work with local authorities to address any safety concerns, such as adding streetlights or speed bumps.

Support local businesses: Encourage neighbors to support local businesses, such as shops and restaurants. This can help to create a sense of community and boost the local economy.

Organize community events: Organize events, such as neighborhood clean-up days, block parties, or holiday gatherings, to help bring neighbors together and create a sense of community.

Be a good neighbor: Encourage everyone to be a good neighbor by being friendly, respectful, and helpful. This can help to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the neighborhood.

Follow a few basic guidelines, and model them for the next generation, and our community will be a better place to live this spring and for years to come.
