Consistency in marketing is critical in today’s online age
Friday, April 7, 2023
One time when I was in Omaha, I was looking for some restaurant options. I found one place that looked interesting and wanted to check the menu before I went there. Their website was very minimal and lacked information, but it did link to their Facebook page. The Facebook page had a different logo, despite the location being the same. On both their website and their Facebook page, I couldn’t find the hours they were open, nor the menu, and received conflicting information. There was no way I could tell if they were open or if they were even the same business based on their marketing materials. Deciding not to waste the gas on going there to check, I chose to go to a different place that did have the menu on their website. Because of not having the same marketing materials and updated information on their website and Facebook page, that restaurant missed out on a customer. This leads me to my point, consistent marketing is a critical piece in finding and retaining a customer base.
With technology constantly growing and changing, it is important that we adapt and change to grow with it. For the business owners of McCook, they have a challenge: they must compete against competitors from all over the world and convince a customer that their business is the one that deserves their money. Social media and online advertising are bigger than ever. It might seem like having a Facebook page is good enough, but you might find that it does more harm than good if your marketing isn’t consistent.
Here at the Chamber, we have the fun opportunity to work with businesses of all shapes and sizes and see how those businesses choose to approach advertising and marketing.
One thing we have encountered is finding that a member business might have inconsistent or no marketing materials between the various social media pages they have.
It can be difficult to realize, especially since this seems like a small thing, but that inconsistency might be costing them customers.
To leave you with a goal, I hope I can encourage you all to make sure you are giving yourself the best chance you can when marketing your business.
Make sure your information is correct on all the platforms you are on, and make sure you have your marketing materials updated both online and in print. An inconsistency could cost you a customer!
