McCOOK, Neb. — Julie Ann Mockry, age 70, of McCook, passed away at her home on March 21, 2023.
She was born in McCook on March 21, 1953, to William “Bill” and Elanor (Ninemiers) Herman. Julie attended and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1972.
She married Craig Minson and to this union two daughters were born, Collete and Stacey. Julie later married Orville “Jim” Mockry and she gained daughters, Cindi and Caitlyn and a son, Jamie. Jim preceded her in death in 2008.
Julie enjoyed camping at area lakes from Trenton to Alma. She followed all of her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. In her early years, she loved to go to stockcar races in McCook, Culbertson, and Kansas. Julie was ready to go in a moment’s notice from the kids or a friend to take a road trip; just as long as it wasn’t over four hours. She loved to bake cookies with her grandchildren, especially peanut butter chocolate chip, frosted sugar cookies and Christmas cookies. Julie was known to frequent Casino’s.
Julie was baptized and confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Culbertson, where she was still a member. She enjoyed volunteering for many of her children’s events and was a member of the Community Graduation Committee in Culbertson. Julie worked as a housekeeper at the Chief Motel and the Holiday Inn Express.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Elanor; husband, Orville “Jim” Mockry; sister, Nancy Kautz; and brother-in-law, Robert Wurster.
Julie is survived by her daughters: Collette (Travis) Balderston of McCook, Stacey Shaw of Omaha, Cindi (Brian) Ward of McCook, and Caitlyn Mockry of Lincoln; son, Jamie (Theresa) Mockery of McCook; 11 grandchildren: Desarae, Ashlyn, Rylie, Lane, Kylee, Josyln, Aaron, Anita, James, Callie, and Gunner; six great-grandchildren: Theo, Oakley, Liahm, Rhett, Treajo, and baby Newkirk; brothers-in-law, Robert (Angela) Mockery of McCook, Jerry Kautz of Culbertson, and Randy (Wanda) Mockry of McCook; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Charlie) Collins and Mary Sue Wurster, all of McCook; as well as a special friend, Lonnie Zimbelman of McCook;
Funeral services for Julie will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11 a.m., with Jamie Mockery officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Visitation for Julie will be from 1-6 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Family will be present to greet friends from 5-6 p.m.
