Chamber awards Elf on the Shelf prizes
McCOOK, Neb. – Christmas just got a bit brighter for the families of Keith Shepherd and CeAnna Cole. Both lucky shoppers will receive over $300 in goodies and gift certificates from the McCook Chamber of Commerce as part of their Elf on the Shelf promotion throughout the holiday season.
According to Chamber President Molly Smith, the promotion was a hit with shoppers and merchants alike. Businesses hosted two elves who hid in stores for shoppers to locate during the 22-day promotion. Once located, shoppers could register for a drawing for daily prizes, as well as the two grand prizes.
The elves kicked off the promotion by visiting the elementary schools, McCook Police Department, and McCook Fire Department.
Smith also reported that Noel on Norris was also a hit, with over 180 carriage rides provided. Norris Avenue was teaming with observers of The High Plains Radio Christmas Light Parade on December 3rd.
The first prize was awarded to Cornerstone Insurance, second place to BlessEngs Daycare, and third place was a tie between Hot Tub Brokers and VK Electronics.
Chamber board member Jaci Weissert from Pinnacle Bank has resigned from the board due to a relocation to Elwood, Neb., and her seat will be filled by Karen Craw also of Pinnacle Bank. Karen is familiar with the chamber as she has served on the chamber’s budget and finance committee.
The chamber is looking forward to 2023. They are starting the year with a record number of members (209) and will look to add to that excitement with a membership drive in the Spring. “It’s about investing in the community,” Smith said. She explained that the chamber can help businesses of all sizes, but the real advantage of being a chamber member is the benefits provided to the whole community through chamber partnership. She said the growth in membership and sponsorship translates to a growing community that is thriving and moving forward. “We are in a good position moving forward into 2023,” Smith said.
Other 2023 events to anticipate include the Bash on the Hills on June 9th, Crazy Days is June 22 to 24, and Heritage Days will be October 11th to 14th. The celebration has been backed up a week so more high school bands will be available, as it won’t conflict with Harvest of Harmonies held in Grand Island.
Noel on Norris will be Dec. 2, 2023.
