No. 3 Wolves tip off 2-0, Tigers take opener

BARTLEY, Neb. — The Class D-1 No. 3 Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves roared through their first two wins last weekend.
On Saturday, it was all about Hay in MayHay with Haydn Farr’s 22 points and Hayden Kramer scoring 21 during a 63-41 victory over Southwest.
The Hay-dynamic duo teamed to hit 20 of their 34 field goals for 66 percent shooting.
Junior Jeremiah Ingison added 13 points as coach Kolby Hamilton’s tall team warmed up for the Cattle Trail Tournament in McCook starting today.
Senior Zack Ryan’s 15 points paced Southwest (1-1) while classmates Kaden Day (11) and Hunter Cunningham (10) also reached double digits.
The Roughriders were fresh off a road win at Medicine Valley Thursday evening.
On Friday, the Wolves were even sharper during a 75-31 triumph at Wallace.
Ingison’s 25 points led this victory on 12 of 17 shooting.
Kramer contributed 14 with another 12 from Farr. The Wolves built a 44-24 led by halftime.

WAUNETA, Neb. — Senior Will Taylor’s 13 points and junior Carson Trompke tallied 12 in a grinder win over the Broncos Friday night.
Junior Ben Hobarty was a rebounding beast on both ends, securing seven offensive and seven defensive for 14 total.
Grayden Sutherland’s 10 points topped the Broncos (1-1) after their last-shot win over Wallace Thursday. The Broncos have totaled 28 points during each of their first two contests.

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — A rare regular-season meeting featured junior Jackson Kerchal’s 23 points leading the Dundy County-Stratton opening victory Friday night.
Freshman Lane Bybee stepped into a varsity role for the returning state qualifiers and scored 16 points.
Senior Alex Englot tossed in another 10 points on 63 percent shooting (five for eight).
Kerchal captured nine rebounds and five assists for other Tiger bests.
Sophomore Trenton Roskop’s 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists paced the 0-2 Warriors.
Arapahoe delivered a balanced attack as Campbell Schutz also scored 11, senior Ander Wasenius 10 and sophomore William Shaw nine.
Schutz pulled down seven rebounds for coach John Strand’s team.

ELM CREEK, Neb. — Southern Valley stayed within 16-13 until Elm Creek broke during the second half Saturday night.
Junior Kamden Bose’s 10 points kept the Eagles (0-2) within striking range but they only shot 27 percent from two-point range.
Junior Rian Grove and sophomore Gabe Booe added six points each.
