Chamber plans new 'members only' quarterly meeting, starting Sept. 15

Thursday, August 18, 2022

McCOOK, Neb. - A new chamber quarterly meeting will be “for-members-only” and will take place Thursday, September 15 at McCook Christian Church beginning at 12:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Tyler McCarty, owner of Mac’s Drive-In and a chamber board member.

The meeting will give members the opportunity to ask questions of the board as they learn more about the “state of the chamber”, according to Chamber President Molly Smith. “I think it’s going to be a chance for the chamber to be open about our future and what we’re doing and why we are an important part of the community,” Smith said. The meeting will include a taco bar lunch, and members must RSVP to the chamber by Sep. 8.

Heritage Days will kick off on October 5th with the MNB Bank mixer and the naming of the 2022 Heritage Days Royalty and honorees. Smith said nominations are currently being accepted for Heritage Days honorees, and applications for Heritage Days Royalty will be going to high school counselors soon.

Another event during Heritage Days is a “community celebration” being hosted by several organizations on Thursday, October 6th at Norris Alley. Saturday’s events will include the parade, activities in Norris Park, and a chamber golf tournament. The evening of Saturday, Oct. 8 will be Community Hospital Health Foundation’s annual Concert for Healthcare. In addition, Heritage Acres and Coppermill are partnering on Saturday, October 8th for a Beer, Brats, & Burgers all-you-can-eat event at The Coppermill.

Smith said the chamber has a lot of different options for businesses that would like to help make Heritage Days even more successful through sponsorship.

A chamber member survey will be going out in September. The goal is to answer the questions, “How are we doing?”, “What do you think we can do better?”, and “How can we help you?”, Smith told the Gazette.

Chamber members are also being encouraged to get involved by becoming committee members. “We have lots of committees to choose from,” Smith said.

“People can help in any way, and we will take anybody.” Smith said the Noel on Norris Committee and the Christmas Promotion committee will be meeting soon, so she encourages anyone who wants to be involved to call her soon.
