Dale Dean Bailey

BROKEN BOW, Neb. — Dale Dean Bailey of Broken Bow passed away on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at the CHI St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Neb., with his wife and five nephews and five nieces at his side. Dale was born on the home place in Hayes County, Neb., on July 27, 1931, to Ervin and Millie (Buzzard) Bailey. Dale attended elementary school District No. 63 in Hays County, where he received his elementary school diploma.

Dale enlisted in the U. S. Army on February 1952 and was honorably discharged on Feb. 25, 1954. On Sept. 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Beverly Smith at North Platte, Neb. The couple enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

Dale worked for many years as a mechanic for Boulder Motorways in Colorado until 1977. Dale and Bev purchased a gas station and repair shop called the D & B Service in Culbertson. Dale continued to operate the station until 1988. He then began to run a fuel truck at the COOP in Trenton until he retired in 1996.

Dale loved camping, hunting, fishing and woodworking and especially time with family. Dale served on the Board of Housing Authority for 17 years. Dale was an instructor for Hunter Safety. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 59.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Millie; sisters, Geraldine Mowry, Annabelle Ebert, infant Fern, and Loa Mae (Roland) Wilke; and brothers, Edward, Melvin, Edgar, and Marlin.

Dale is survived by his wife, Beverly of Callaway, Neb.; sisters, Twila (Roger) Olson of Grand Island, Shirley (Byron) Peters of McCook; special niece, Janet Schaad; and several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Neb., with Military Honors on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Marvin Wilke officiating.  Friends may leave online condolences at herrmafh.com. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
