OGALLALA, Neb. — McCook golfed to a trio of top 15 places and finished tied for third overall at Thursday’s Ogallala Invitational.

Senior Jonas Somerville shot 80 for eighth overall, freshman Reid Loop shared 12th at 92 and senior Hunter Hansen took 14 wtih an 83.

Freshman Landon Kmoch (89) and senior Matthew Nichols (92) also competed for the Bison, who totaled a 334 team score.

Scottsbluff’s 320 took home the team title with host Ogallala earning second at 325.

“The Bison golfers had a decent day on the course. We started the day slow with some big numbers, but we settled in and finished the day really well,” coach Ben Vetrovsky commented. “Jonas had a solid day scoring an 80. I was really proud of how Reid Loop finished his round. He was only one over par in his last 11 holes. Hunter Hansen had one hole he wished he could play over.

Without that hole, Hunter is in the 70s and is in the top five in the tournament.”

Scottsbluff’s Austin Thyne shot 70 win the tourney individually. Many of these same golfers will meet at Heritage Hills on Monday for a Class B district tournament which will determine some state tournament spots.

“Overall, I am proud of the effort, and we are looking forward to having a good day next Monday for districts,” Vetrovsky concluded.
