McCOOK, Neb. — A long-time McCook police officer and the son-in-law of a late sheriff will face a former Marine and son of a Dundy County sheriff’s deputy in the general election in November.

MPD Senior Sgt. Kevin Darling defeated another McCook Police officer, Dalton Downing, in the Republican race to replace retiring Sheriff Alan Kotschwar in the fall election. He will face another Red Willow County deputy, Jaeden Carter, a registered Libertarian. Carter is the son of John Carter, who was seeking the Dundy County Sheriff’s office in Tuesday’s election.

Nebraska State Patrol trooper Ted Gans successfully challenged long-time District 1 Red Willow County Commissioner Earl McNutt, current board chairman, 363-228. Charles Fritsche defeated District 3 incumbent Cayla Richards, 519-277 after all 14 precincts had reported.
