Kids, New Girls rule 'Y' block in volleyball!

McCOOK, Neb. — Great rallies and three-set thrillers filled quite a championship week of Women’s Volleyball at the McCook YMCA.

Seeded third among four teams, Golden Girls on The Block twice shook off first-set defeats set to win the Women’s Rec League Tournament.

GGOB suffered a staggering 25-10 setback, then took down No. 2 Wagner Auto Group 25-20 and 18-16.

New Kids on the Bloc played tougher than any boy band while winnng the McCook YMCA Comp League volleyball touranment recently. From left are Taylor Wright, Lauren Carpenter, Terra Higgins, Staci Applegarth, Colby Cox and Martena Rich.

The title match featured No. 1 That’s What She Set taking a 25-17 first set.

But like Betty White for many many years, Golden Girls on The Block kept going strong. They scored 25-10 and 15-11 victories for the championship.

Meanwhile, No. 2 New Kids on The Block faced a 25-19 defeat before rallying past No. 3 Shining Diamonds 25-20, 25-11 in their Women’s Comp League tourney semifinal.

This title match was amazing as all three sets were decided by three points or less.

New Kids won 25-23, lost 25-22 and finally prevailed 15-13 over No. 1 Gabi Ann Boutique.
