The friend who sticks closer than a relative

It is hard for some people who have never been around a serious health issue or eminent death to know what to say, do, or how to help.

They may go into denial and avoid the person with the diagnosis. It may not mean they don’t love or care, they just don’t know how to cope, deal, handle or go thru it with them. Forgive others in their weakness if you are the one suffering.

My dad used to get drunk & disappear until the crisis was over.

Generational curses tempt us to do weird things. I used to go into denial, pretend it wasn’t happening, that they were just crying wolf, or I was too busy.

But later in life, by the Grace of God, I can now sit with the dying in silence & just be there for them, or listen if they want to rehearse their life verbally or share old photos & stories one last time.

Maybe it is a reality check & maturity process to know how to reach out or respond to the seriously ill or dying.

Forgive your loved ones if they are not mature enough to be there for you.

Appreciate the ones who are & know that Jesus is standing by 24/7 to comfort & listen & remind you of his promises & unfailing Love.

He is the friend who sticks closer than a relative.
