Daycare centers help ease shortage in McCook
McCOOK, Neb. — Kezie’s Kids, Day & Night Care is now open for business. Mackenzie Gonzales, of McCook is now a licensed childcare provider. Kezie’s Kids has the capacity to care for eight children in total and currently is serving three children and their families.
The recent closure of Hillcrest Little Folks, created a substantial void in the pool of childcare providers in the community. Fortunately, there were several providers that were able to accept one or two children and there were two centers that were able to accept approximately 10 children each. The addition of Kezie’s Kids aided in lessening the severity of the impact on the children and families affected.
Another local childcare provider just reached a milestone. Mindy Rogers opened her business, home, and her heart as a childcare provider in McCook in November of 2008. Mindy just became the first in-home provider in McCook to reach Step Up to Quality Level 2.

During the pandemic, McCook/Red Willow County childcare providers have successfully kept their doors open to be of service for working parents. When childcare is inadequate, it directly impacts families, employers, and state revenue. While being of service to working parents, this has helped with a positive impact of economics for our city/county.
The McCook Community 4 Kids Team is an initiative led locally by McCook Economic Development Corporation with support provided by the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation. The local team has led the efforts to increase access and quality of early childhood education throughout the area.
