Bison wins SWC championship en route to career mark

AINSWORTH, Neb. — McCook junior Alex Anthony reached 100 career wins while winning the Southwest Conference 160-pound championship in Friday's tournament at Ainsworth High School.

Anthony (31-8 record) topped 30 wins this season and should take momentum into the B-4 district meet this weekend at Sidney. He defeated three foes at SWC who owned a combined 70 wins, capped by downing Valentine's Kadon Wienig, 5-2, in their conference title match.

Sophomores Canyon Hosick and Layton Carpenter both earned third place overall to help McCook place sixth among eight strong SWC teams.

Hosick (12-5) delivered one of his best wins this season when he pinned 40-8 Evan Smith of Minden during that final match.

Carpenter (18-10) took a marathon overtime finale for third at 195. Watch for more details.
