McCOOK, Neb. — Chamber officials are encouraging everyone to mark the week of Oct. 3 to 8 in their 2022 calendar. That is the week that Heritage Days festivities will take place next year. By having the event take place a bit later in the year, chamber officials are hopeful that area schools will become more involved in some of the activities, as well as resolving a date conflict with some other area celebrations.

While she wasn’t sure that it could be accomplished for the 2022 Heritage Days, Chamber President Brandi McConnell said one of the goals is to see a return of Band Days with field competitions during the Heritage Days celebration.

“We learned a lot from this year’s celebration, what we liked and what we didn’t, and how we can improve,” McConnell said.

The chamber’s retail Christmas promotion runs through Saturday, with the drawing for a winner of $500 in chamber bucks to take place on Tuesday. The chamber has been doing Facebook Live videos with various Christmas promotion sponsors throughout the month of December.

The addition of horse-drawn carriage rides and more lighting and events in Norris Park during the Christmas Light Parade made this year’s event one of the best ever, according to McConnell. The Light Parade is sponsored by High Plains Radio, and Station Manager Bryan Loker said there were twenty entries this year, which was a record-breaker. Carriages and teams were provided by Dusty Trails of North Platte, Neb., Pam Wolford, and Brad and Adrienne Randel of McCook. The 2022 Light Parade will take place on December 3rd, and McConnell said she is hopeful that with early planning even more carriage rides will be offered next year.

McConnell also said that the chamber’s annual meeting will take place at some point during the first quarter of 2022. The chamber will send email invites to the membership for the meeting, which will give attendees the opportunity to learn about the chamber’s priorities for the upcoming year. The meeting will be available in person or via Zoom.

In addition to the ribbon cutting held this morning for Scooter’s, Joyce Anderson CPA will be hosting a ribbon cutting Tuesday at 10 a.m. Her office has relocated to the Temple Building, 322 Norris Avenue, on the first floor.

McCook Economic Development Corp. will host a chamber mixer on Jan. 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to highlight the co-work space available at the Keystone Business Center. McConnell said the professional office space is available for entrepreneurs building their business, those working remote, or employees of organizations that need additional tools to support their work.

In other business, the chamber board of directors finalized the 2022 budget, which McConnell described as a “pretty smooth process.”
