McCOOK, Neb. — Russell “Corky” Burton, age 76, formerly of McCook, passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021.

He was born in Stratton, Neb., on May 17, 1945, to Lucius Cecile and Lois (Ungles) Burton. Corky had six siblings: Dick, Pat, Bob, Peg, Ray and Pam.

Lois spent the days singing, playing music, filled the day with laughter, making Corky inclusive in all family activities. Corky worked for a brief time at SWATS. He loved to garden and sell the surplus. Corky enjoyed the SWAT dances, bowling, and riding his three-wheeled bike with his dogs in the basket around McCook. Corky was very social and made many friends in McCook or wherever he would go, Texas, Colorado, North Dakota and eastern Nebraska. Corky enjoyed the family meals and get togethers.

Corky was an Ambassador of Love. The family appreciates all the friends and, communities of Southwest Nebraska that looked out for Corky and befriended him. Corky loved his pets: Patsy Cline and Pebbles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lois; brother, Dick; brother-in-law, Hank Schelling and many aunts and uncles.

Corky is survived by siblings, Robert Burton of McCook, Pat Bellamy and husband, Bob of Loveland, Peggy Schelling of Kearney, Ray Burton and wife, Cindy, of Ulysses, Pam Corder and husband, Larry of Kearney, numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews and way too many friends to mention. Remember… Let bygones be bygones, say how are you to your loved ones every day and love unconditionally as Corky did.

Funeral services will be at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, 2 p.m., with Mike Roth officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery of McCook.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
