Family leads the Zombie race for top places
McCOOK, Neb. — The MHS XC Zombie Run is no ordinary race, featuring two different lengths, several types of terrain and of course, McCook High School cross country runners as zombies along the course at Red Willow State Recreation Area.
More than 40 runners and walkers took to the 5K course with another half dozen tackling the tough half-marathon distance recently.
The Blomstedt family led the way for the 5K with Axel Blomstedt finishing as the overall winner in a time of 26.33.
His sister, Rinlee Blomstedt was not far behind in 27:16 to claim the women’s overall winner.
Not to be outdone, their mom Staci Blomstedt was the overall top winner in the half-marathon(ish), which was four loops of the 5K course.
She finished in 2 hours, 3 minutes.
Mike Farr was the top male half-marathoner in 2:18.

30-39, Charles Hayes, 44:51
40-49, Jason Blomstedt, 28:01
50-59, Jim Larson, 52:24
60 and over, Warren Cico, 35:34.
The final two races in the 2021 racing season are approaching fast. The Community Hospital Turkey Trot is Saturday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. in McCook.
Registration is now open.
