Longhorns run into place among league's top three

IMPERIAL, Neb. — Chase County’s girls were third and just two points behind Bridgeport during the SPVA cross country championship meet on Thursday.
Senior Jordan Jablonski also placed third overall with her time of 22:42.98 behind only the North Platte St. Patrick’s duo of champion Katie Steinike (21:42.99) and runner-up freshman Braelyn Gifford (21:45.61).
Senior Caelyn Long captured Chase’s other top 15 medal as she finished 15th (24:48.61).
The Longhorns totaled 47 points which outpaced Sutherland (52) and Perkins County (56). St Patrick’s won the team title (22 points) comfortably over Bridgeport (45).
Chase senior Morgan Peterson placed 17th (25:01.35) among 34 varsity finishers. Junior teammate McKenzie Vogt claimed 18th (25:08.28) and junior Madelynn Hanes was 26th (28:19.47).
Senior Matalie Wallin (28th) completed the Longhorn contingent.

BOYS
Chase County freshmen Trevin Moreno (11th/19:56.92) and Navy Smith (15th/20:34.46) led the Longhorns into fourth place among seven SPVA boys eams competing on Thursday.
North Platte St. Patrick’s ran away with the title. The Irish only tallied 15 points ahead of Hershey (55), Perkins County (55), Chase County (64), Sutherland (80), Bridgeport (101) and Kimball (114).
St. Pat’s sophomore Jarrett Miles won the SPVA individual title (17:23.24) in this 5,000-meter race with Perkins County senior Colton Pouk placing second (18:07.89).
Chase County featured four other runners who finishing in the top half of 50 varsity finishers led by junior Colin O’Neil (18th, 21:12.91), freshman Andrew Wiest (20th, 21:25.22) and sophomore Mason Tyerman (21st, 21:38.91).
Senior Nick Rau was 23rd (21:41.65). Districts are on Thursday.
