Whippets top young Bison, others at Heritage Hills
McCOOK, Neb. — McCook High’s golfers are gaining both great varsity experience and more players as this 2021 season hits full swing.
Younger Bison teammates watched their top varsity duo compete in Friday’s annual McCook Invitational at Heritage Hills.
Janessa Dwyer fired a much better final nine which included only three strokes to finish that 17th hole.
Dwyer totaled 122 overall on this nearly 100-degree day which tied Cambridge’s Erin Rasmusseen for 18th place.
Trojan top golfer Macy Jones led the area golfers, taking 11th place with her round of 104. Jordyn Cross shot 135 to complete the Cambridge contingent.
Lexington’s Zoey Salem carded 87 for the individual title ahead of Ogallala’s Jessica Folchert at 89.
However, the Minden Whippets took home a team championship thanks to top five placers Kaylee Smith (95), Kara Suchsland (96) and Callie Whitten (96). Minden’s 390 team total was 20 strokes lower than runner-up Ogallala (410). Lexington (412) claimed third and Holdrege fourth (480). Maxine Hill led Dundy County-Stratton (137) and Kiana Martin paced Southwest (138). SW’s Grace Fries shot 141.
