Saints split first four games of diamond season

The Southern Valley-Alma Saints avenged a loss to Chadron and downed Lexington for a 2-2 record during their first weekend of softball action in 2021.

Chadron 12, Saints 11

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity lost the lead late in a 12-11 defeat to Chadron on Friday. Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity trailed 10-9 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Emma Joppa doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity did collect 10 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Chadron had 10 hits on the way to victory.

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity put up seven runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Lillian Marshall and Natasha Hock, a walk by Kaylee Baker, a triple by Brynn Bailey, and a groundout by Alivia Taylor.

Hock and Bailey each collected multiple hits for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. Hock went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity in hits.

Joppa took the loss for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. The righthander went seven innings, allowing 12 runs on 10 hits and striking out five.

Holdrege 10, Saints 3

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity had a tough time generating runs on Saturday, dropping their game with Holdrege 10-3.

Emma Joppa took the loss for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. Joppa allowed nine hits and ten runs over five and a third innings, striking out three and walking one.

Kaylee Baker went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity in hits.

Saints 11, Chadron 7

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity got on the board in the first inning. Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity scored one run when Natasha Hock singled.

Emma Joppa earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. The righthander allowed eight hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out one.

Demaris Kelso took the loss for Chadron. The hurler lasted one inning, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out two.

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity hit one home run on the day. Joppa went yard in the second inning.

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity tallied nine hits on the day. Brynn Bailey, Hock, and Joppa each had multiple hits for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. Bailey went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity in hits.

Saints 9, Lexington 4

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity opened up an early lead in the first inning when Emma Joppa singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity took the lead for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Natasha Hock singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Brynn Bailey homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, Alivia Taylor singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, and Rebekah Taylor singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Joppa got the win for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. The righty surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out one.

A Stewart took the loss for Lexington. The pitcher lasted two and a third innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out four.

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity hit one home run on the day. Bailey had a long ball in the second inning.

Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity had nine hits in the game. Hock and Bailey each managed multiple hits for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. Bailey and Hock each collected two hits to lead Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity.
