Quinn cites Sasse statements in motion for new trial
BEAVER CITY, Neb. — Billy Quinn should get a new trial because of statements issued by Sen. Ben Sasse and other reasons, his lawyers said in a motion for a new trial.
William Quinn, 57, was found guilty of 13 of 14 sex trafficking and other charges against him last month.
The motion, filed Friday, alleged irregularities in proceedings of the court, the prosecuting attorney or witnesses that prevented the defendant from having a fair trial, lack of evidence to sustain the verdict, error of law and “irregularity in the proceedings of the Court caused by United States Senator Ben Sasse.”
Accusing Quinn and others charged in the case of being “child rapists,” Sasse issued a statement, while the case was being tried, asking that “the Department (of Justice) engage with our state and local law enforcement in Nebraska to offer its full support to ensure that Quinn and his fellow child rapists are all prosecuted to the full extent of the law for these despicable acts.”
