BSB Construction of Curtis, Neb., is busy with demolition at Memorial Auditorium, replacing concrete steps that were crumbling after nearly 82 years of service to the citizens of McCook and the surrounding area. The project is costing about $65,000 but adjusted for inflation, taxpayers have gotten their money out of the entire structure, completed in 1939 at a cost of more than $94,000, funded by municipal bonds, a federal PWA grant and the local American Legion post. A history of the building, dedicated Nov. 12, 1939, as a memorial to veterans of all wars, is available on the city website.
