MINDEN, Neb. — Roy C. Mustion, age 96, of Minden, formerly of McCook, Neb., passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at the Bethany Home in Minden.

Roy was born July 19, 1924, in Clemons, Iowa, to parents, Gail Cecil and Victoria Pearl (Brindle) Mustion. He was one of seven children born to this union. Roy grew up in Missouri, where he also attended school, graduating from Koshkonong High School. Following high school, Roy entered the United States Army where he proudly served his country from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Roy served during World War II with Headquarter Co. 16th Tank Battalion, 16th and 4th Armored Divisions in Europe. He was awarded the American Theater Service Ribbon, European- African- Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

On June 8, 1947, Roy married the love of his life, Mildred Ruth (Horn) Mustion in McCook. The couple made their home in Indianola until 1963, when they moved to the McCook community. They were the proud parents of four children: Richard, Margaret, Jean and Barbara.

Roy was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1979 at the age of 55. He and Mildred were founding members of McCook Christian Church where Roy served as an elder. Roy made a public declaration of his faith through baptism at the age of 15. He was a member of the Gideons, the past president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1065, past president of Red Willow’s Good Samaritan Club and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred Mustion in 2019; three brothers, Donald, Carroll, and Fred Mustion; one granddaughter, Angelica Petersen; daughter-in-law, Linda Mustion; and brother-in-law, Dick Bruening.

Those left to celebrate his life include his son, Richard (Verdena) Mustion of North Platte, Neb.; three daughters, Margaret (Neal) Hauxwell of McCook, Jean (Richard) Hester and Barbara (Brian) Petersen, all of Minden; siblings, Florence Baker of Decartar, Ark., Gladys Harper of Norton, Kan., and Dorothy Bruening of Minden; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other extended family members and close friends.

Visitation with family greeting friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at McCook Christian Church, McCook, with Pastor Clark Bates officiating.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m., also on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at the Minden Cemetery, 801 West 1st Street, Minden.
