INDIANOLA, Neb. — David Roy Nickerson, age 91, of Indianola, passed away on April 18, 2021, at Brookstone Gardens in Kearney, Neb.

David was born April 8, 1930, in Indianola to parents, Roy Leslie and Nell Emily (Plourd) Nickerson. He was one of two brothers who grew up in Indianola, where he attended school and graduated from Indianola High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, David served in the National Guard. He was a member of the McCook Unit for eight years.

On June 19, 1956, David married Evelynn Marie (Friehe) Nickerson in Culbertson, Neb. The couple was blessed with five children. For over 30 years, David owned Midwest Sales, where he spent time traveling as a sales representative to area service stations and tire repair shops before retiring in 1994. David was a history buff who enjoyed exploring libraries and museums, reading, and watching Gunsmoke on television. He and Evelynn enjoyed traveling for both business and recreation and had visited every U.S. state as well as Canada, Mexico, China, Greece, Brazil, New Zealand and Europe. David was a member of First Congregational Church in McCook.

David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelynn Nickerson; brother, Rodney Nickerson; grandson, Derrick Deets; and granddaughter, Ziera Nickerson.

Those left to celebrate his life include his children, Thomas (Jill) Nickerson and Robert (Susan) Nickerson, all of Kearney, Kenneth (Anita) Nickerson of Gibbon, Neb., Nancy (Tom) Corey of McCook and Judy Nickerson of North Platte, Neb.; sister-in-law, Janice Nickerson of Modesto, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson due next month; and a host of extended family members.

Visitation with family greeting friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday April 21, 2021, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the First Congregational Church, McCook, with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook.
