Lana Louise Kester

June 8, 1940 - March 2, 2021

OXFORD, Neb. — Lana Louise Kester of Oxford went to be with her Savior on March 2, 2021. She was 80 years old.

Lana was born on June 8, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., to Dr. Howard L. Kester DVM and May Louise (Mayo) Kester. The first few years of her life were spent in Cambridge, Neb., Little Rock, Ark., and Silver Springs, M.D.. Her father was a federal veterinarian and in the Army. The family moved to Cambridge when World War II ended. They moved to the family farm near Orafino in Frontier County. She attended grade school in Orafino. Then Lana moved to the Martin Luther Home in Beatrice, Neb. In 1975, Lana moved to Oxford, where she spent the rest of her life living and working at the Mid-Nebraska Individual Services.

Through all the years she always considered Cambridge and the farm at Orafino her home. She always attended the Frontier County fair at Stockville. She looked forward to attending the Sunday evening entertainment. She especially enjoyed riding the Ferris wheel in her younger years and always wanted to know if there was going to be a Ferris wheel with the carnival.

Through the years she was able to do some traveling, going to Las Vegas, Hollywood and on several cruises. She spent the holidays with her family in Cambridge. She enjoyed taking part at the activities at Oxford also. She had a sunny disposition and made friends easily. She got along with everyone.

In her younger years, Lana enjoyed going to church at the Orafino Evangelical United Brethren Church. She had fond memories of the sunrise Easter Services. She attended church in Oxford and especially enjoyed the many covered dish dinners.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Louise Kester; step-mother, Valentine Rankin Kester; and brother, Larry Kester.

Lana is survived by her brothers, Edward and wife, Marilyn and Howard and wife, Valaine; nieces and nephews, Toni and husband, John Hawks; Kevin and wife, Meredith Kester; Casey and wife, Terry Kester; Keith Kester; Kenneth and wife, Meg Kester, Cliff and wife, Karen Kester; Cordy Kester; Kipp Kester; Kirby and wife, Rene’ Kester; Kerry Kester and Keith Horton; along with several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Lockenour Jones Mortuary in Cambridge on Thursday, March 4, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 2 p.m., with Jim Jones giving a message. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge.
