Warriors stand tall, topple Trojans 49-37
CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Arapahoe’s boys “picked their poison” and walked away feeling great following a 49-37 big road win over Cambridge Tuesday night.
While Trojan Derek Trompke launched a painful barrage of corner three-pointers, the Warriors contained everyone else with strong defense.
“We really did. We kept (Trojan inside force) Dahlton Wood out of the paint and made it tough for him to score,” coach John Strand said about the Warriors’ seventh win this season (7-12). “The big thing we said is if we give good effort all game, good things will happen.”
Arapahoe’s balanced scoring was certainly a good thing throughout this RPAC rivalry game.
Junior Grant Taylor’s five quick first-quarter points gave the Warriors their first lead at 11-10.
Sophomore Ander Wasenius soon found senior Triston Abraham for an inside basket and 17-15 edge.
Yet the real pivotal baskets formed a 9-0 Warrior flurry that finished this opening half.
Passes from Taylor to senior Nolan Meyers finished with sophomore Cooper Wendland’s go-ahead score.
Abraham finished this run when he canned his own corner “triple” just before halftime, making it 26-18.
The Trojans (6-14) weren’t able to get closer than five points again.
Junior Tyler Miller showed the effort when he swatted away a final Cambridge third-quarter shot.
Leading 35-29, senior Reilley Einspahr nailed another triple which returned the Warriors to full control.
“It was exciting,” Strand concluded. “They got us at our place and we returned the favor tonight.”
