Wolves fight off the Wolves to reach 14-1

HAYES CENTER, Neb. — A 14-2 fourth quarter clinched the 14th win this season as Maywood-Hayes Center’s girls finished off feisty Arthur County, 40-25, Friday evening.

Visiting A.C. proved troublesome for the Green, taking a 16-15 lead into halftime.

The M-HC Wolves (14-1 record) finally moved in front, 26-23, through three quarters than really put these 7-4 Arthur County Wolves away.

Sophomore Olivia Hansen’s 13 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three assists powered the Wolves.

Classmate Ashlin Broz’s 10 points — including two triples — helped the hosts survive 29 percent shooting from two-point range.

Meanwhile, M-HC defense contained Arthur County to 23 percent (10 for 43).

No visitor other than senior Grace Wenzel (six) finished with more than four points.

Senior Jaycee Widener’s 10 rebounds also helped M-HC control the backboards by a 40-25 final count.

Hansen had nine rebounds andWidener only totaled five points, but sophs Kiley Hejtmanek (eight) and Alexis Wood (four) teamed for another dozen.

Hansen zipped another three-pointer through the Hayes Center gym net.

Wood’s eight rebounds joined Hejtmanek’s seven to further highlight the lates winning Wolves’ effort. The M-HC girls are now a combined 42-3 in basketball and volleyball so far through 2020-21.
