DCS girls avenge Cattle Trail defeat

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Dundy County-Stratton’s girls avenged a Cattle Trail tourney defeat and roared into Christmas break with their 61-54 home win over Wauneta-Palisade Tuesday evening.

Senior Haylee Davis swished two three-pointers through the nets to ignite a 21-10 first quarter.

The Tigers took turns attacking from there with four scoring 11 points or more. Senior McKinzie Baney netted 19, Maggie Lutz 15 and freshman Alyssa Schneider 11 besides Davis’ 11 points.

Davis drilled one more triple while Lutz hit a pair of threes and Baney swished another one.

Wauneta-Palisade (5-3) showed great fight after falling behind by as many as 16 points in the third quarter. The Broncos closed within five, but DC-S hit 23 free throws to seal this win.

Baney finished eight-for-10 at the charity stripe while Schneider finished five-or-six.

Lutz led the Tiger rebounders as she cleared away 10 boards. Davis, junior Lillian Wiese and Schneider secured six rebounds apiece.

No Bronco individual stats were obtained.

The DC-S girls return to action against Cambridge on Tuesday.

Wauneta-Palisade plays North Platte St. Patrick’s Monday at the Arapahoe Holiday Tournament.

Southern Valley 39, Southwest 25

BARTLEY, Neb. — Southern Valley earned its second win this season despite Southwest sophomore Caylin Barnett’s 17 points, nine rebounds and three steals Tuesday night.

The Roughriders slipped to 2-6 this season while those S.V. Eagles reach 2-5 overall.

Freshman Bryn Lampe added four points for Southwest and sophomore Brooklyn Clements collected six rebounds.

No Southern Valley stats were obtained.

Eagles dropped two

SUPERIOR, Neb. — Southern Valley fell to Superior, 38-27, Friday night even though Eagle freshman Ann Bose tallied 12 points and junior Krista Best added eight.

One night earlier, the Eagles lost 54-36 against Ravenna. Bose again tallied 12 points, senior Kynlee Marquez eight, Best seven and Jenna Hunt six points on three-for-three shooting.

Bose swiped four steals and also grabbed six rebounds.

Anselmo-Merna 58, Cambridge 21

RAVENNA, Neb. — The Cambridge Trojans finished a forgettable two Ravenna Holiday Tournament evenings with Tuesday’s consolation loss.

No Trojan individual stats were obtained. The Coyotes (4-2) took a 21-7 lead which reached 32-10 going into halftime.

Senior Kaitlyn Jacquot scored 14 points as she made six of eight shots.

Cambridge dropped a 47-31 semifinal contest to Ravenna Monday evening.

The Trojans (3-5 record) will try to stop a four-game slide when they return following Christmas break. They also lost 41-34 at Loomis last weekend even though junior Schyler Hobarty hit six of seven shots for 12 points.

Junior Autumn Deterding and sophomore Breelle Miller totaled 10 points each. They also pulled in six rebounds apiece.

Bridgeport 75, Chase County 67

BRIDGEPORT, Neb. — The Chase County Longhorns tripped to 3-2 overall, although they lit up Tuesday night with 30 fourth-quarter points.

A 27-10 third period helped Bridgeport (6-1) withstand that late Longhorn barrage.

No individual Chase County stats were obtained.
