The 'Be' Attitudes
Friday, October 23, 2020
The character attitudes Christians are to have. “To Be” or “Not to Be”? If you are a Christian, you are to chose “To Be” these Attitudes.
Matthew 5:3-11
“Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Knowing we are insufficient & inadequate without Him. Conscious of our continual dependence on God.
“Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.” To be saddened by the things that sadden God. To grieve for what grieves Him. Our heart shares the emotions of His heart.
“Blessed are the Meek for they will inherit the earth.” To be able to give up your will & to submit to His.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled. To be hungry in your desire to please God. To apply righteous standards to your way of life. Knowing that God holds His followers to a higher standard than the world. There are things the world or careless Christians get away with that a person who hungers & thirsts to be in right standing with God at all times will avoid.
Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy. Exercises pity, feeling sorry for someone who has messed up instead of condemnation. Knowing that their may be a time one might need Mercy themselvs.
Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. To come clean & stay clean before God. In knowing God already knows all your good, bad & ugly about you & still loves you , so be honest with Him & don’t try to hide stuff. Denial is only hurting yourself & your relationship with God. Stay pure in heart by confessing it all as it happens, so you can stay clean & there will be no darkness in you.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God. Be a mediator. Christ brought peace between God & sinful mankind. He reconciled the two. We are to bring peace & reconciliation in estranged situations, too.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Some people will never like you, but when it is because of your love for Jesus & obedience to Godly values you will be rewarded. If they despise you because of some sin you have commited, become a peacemaker.
“Believers are Salt & Light” they preserve the goodness of God’s better way on Earth giving the lost & searching a spiritually healthy alternative. But when Christians become too mixed up with the world & allow its values to effect them they loose their uniqueness & ability to make a difference. They loose their saltiness & their light no longer lights a path to a better way in Jesus for the world to follow. Their light no longer shines; it grows dim with no influence & no effect.
Thought for Today: Can you “Be” like Christ in your Attitudes? Do you consciously depend on God? Do you know you are insufficient & inadequate without Him? Do you know “from whom” your success comes from? Do you feel sad & grieve over the things that you know God feels sad about? We often wonder if what makes us sad makes Him sad; but does what bothers Him bother you? Can you...have you... ever had to give up your plans & dreams to live His plans & dreams instead? Has it ever bothered you that unbelievers get to do things God has told you you are not to do? Is it better to obey & stay in right standing with God? But when you mess up can you tell Him, without excuses & let Him clean you up & return you to purity? Can you have mercy(pity) & no condemnation helping another who messes up, knowing you could be next? Can you bring peace & reconciliation to an estranged relationship? When others speak bad about you, is it because you are into “that Jesus stuff” or is it because you really did mess up in a human sense? Are you Salt & Light, lighting a desirous path of change & healing for a lost person? Are you shining a light for them to follow? Are you preserving & exhibiting God’s Character Attitudes to those around you; those “Be Attitudes that reflect His”?
