Bison girls win second team title of season!
McCOOK, Neb. — Champion Samantha Rodewald led three McCook top 10 finishers as the Bison cross country girls won Saturday's Broken Bow Cross Country Invitational.
The Bison totaled just 49 points with Rodewald (19:17.24), junior Grace Cappel (ninth/21:12.61) and freshman Siena Dutton (10th/21:18.53) earning medals. Teammates Lexi Hauxwell (26th) and Joslyn Hammond (28th) were also among the top third of 90 varsity finishers.
McCook held off runner-up Minden (62 points) followed by Ainsworth (73), host Broken Bow (110) and North Platte St. Patrick's (117) among eight full teams competing.
McCook also won a season-opening Cozad Invitational on Aug. 28.
"The girls had a very good meet. We really needed our number 5 (Lexi Hauxwell) and 6 (Joslyn Hammond) runners to step up on the day as we were short our number 4 runner," coach Tom Sughroue commented. "Step up they did!! Running personal best times! It was very nice to see them compete so well."
Freshman Grant Cappel finished 15th for the McCook boys as they captured seventh place among 18 boys teams.
Cappel ran his season-best time of 18:02 across the Broken Bow course.
"The boys also had a great day," Sughroue observed. "Again, we had many personal best and season-best performances."

BOYS

Senior Brandon Tucker took 22nd (18:44.97) among a field of 134 varsity finishers.
Seniors Bryce Dutton earned 38th (19:28.44), Kallen Feikert (43rd/19:35.51) and Matt Herron (46th/19:39.79) were other Bison leaders.
Host Broken Bow (66) edged the Gothenburg Swedes (68) in a field of 13 full teams scoring points.
St. Paul placed third (74) behind champion Connor Wells (16:31.75) as he edged Gothenburg’s William Anderson (16:42.91) for fastest overall.
Minden (104) finished fourth and North Platte St. Patrick’s (155) just edged McCook (158) for a top five team place.
Both Bison teams now get ready for the annual McCook Invitational at Heritage Hills golf course Thursday afternoon.
Numerous area teams will join them with first races scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
