Murder defendant bound over to district court
McCOOK, Neb. -- Despite comparisons to another case in which a woman allegedly killed her husband and has been released on bond, a lower bail was denied a 79-year-old McCook woman and she remains in jail while awaiting an appearance in Red Willow County District Court.
Lavetta Langdon is charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon in a felony in connection with the death of her husband, Larry Langdon, at their McCook home on Aug. 20.
Waiving a preliminary hearing, attorney Brian Davis compared Langdon's to that of Kathleen Jourdan, who is charged with second degree murder a firearms charge after allegedly killing her husband in front of their two children during an argument on Interstate 80. She is free on 10% of $1 million bond posted in July.
Both women have alleged abuse as part of their defense.
The Langdons were married in 1960 in Kansas, divorced in Hitchcock County in 2011 and remarried in 2013.
Court documents indicate Mrs. Langdon allegedly shot her husband in his sleep after he struck her during an argument. A pistol and spent ammunition, video surveillance equipment and other items were recovered after a search warrant was executed at their home.
Langdon's case was bound over to district court with no change in bond, and no appearance date has yet been set.
