McCOOK, Neb. — Edgy football beating all boundaries paid off big-time for McCook High’s freshmen throughout a 42-0 win over North Platte Thursday evening.

The Bison broke free to five touchdown runs while flipping one 30-yard TD pass in an impressive week two victory over those visiting Bulldogs.

“Offensively, we were able to use our speed to get to the edges which caused a lot of problems for North Platte’s defense,” coach Bill Ramsay remarked. “I thought our backs did a nice job of recognizing and hitting the holes that the linemen opened up.”

Alex Messenger’s three-yard run and that 30-yard throw from quarterback Canyon Hosick to Weston Walgren delivered McCook’s first two scores.

Patrick Gross added two PATs for a 14-0 lead after one quarter at Weiland Field.

Hosick’s running skills ruled the second quarter as he dashed to a 10-yard score, then covered 23 yards for McCook’s 27-0 lead.

A second Mitchell Cole PAT kick finished the 28-zip Bison first half.

Kaden Jernigan rumbled another 23 yards and Coleton Lentz went eight to two second-half McCook touchdowns.

Gross’ two kicks finished his perfect four-for-four PAT effort.

Meanwhile, Bison defense dominated all four quarters.

“We did a much better job of playing assignment football defensively,” Ramsay observed. “The team started playing lower and did a much better job of gang tackling.”
