Bison rally from four down to stop Dusters, 6-5
HOLDREGE, Neb. — The McCook Bison wiped out a 4-0 Holdrege Duster lead and then held on to their 6-5 softball comeback victory Thursday night.
Tied 5-5, Jada Berry singled with one out in McCook’s seventh inning.
Natalie Roberts drew a walk before both she and Berry advanced one base on sophomore Kennedi Walter’s infield grounder.
With two outs, an errant pickoff throw to first sent Berry racing home for the 6-5 Bison lead.
Senior Emma Kehler then gloved another Bison win when she caught McCook summer player Faith Raburn’s line drive.
The Bison (5-5 record) have now won four straight entering Saturday’s McCook Invitational.
“Settled down after the first inning and played some good ball,” coach Jason Cochran commented. “Needed to get the sticks going earlier but they came through when we needed them.”
Holdrege took a 4-0 lead through and didn’t allow McCook to score until the fifth.
Junior Graci Nelson singled home courtesy runner Izzy Renner with two outs.
The Bison bats really revived during their sixth.
Walter wallped a key double to send Berry hoeme while making it 4-2.
An error sent Roberts rushing across home plate.
Senior Ashley Miller then singled in both Walter and sophomore Abbie Johnson for a 5-4 Bison lead.
Holdrege caught the Bison, 5-5, only to set up those final Berry heroics.
Kehler pitched all seven innings for another win, scattering nine hits and not walking a Duster. Roberts reached base four times (three walks, single).
