Rockies rally at Felling, fans dutifully keep distance
McCOOK, Neb. — Felling Field was a place to be Thursday night with both teams rallying during Thursday night’s Major League baseball season opener.
The McCook CrossFit Royals shook off 6-0 and 9-2 deficits with a comeback that featured Kooper Rakes’ long home run over that Felling Field scoreboard.
Yet tied 10-10 through five, My Family Vision Rockies made the final dramatic plays.
Both Cason Waugh and Bryson Gullion dashed home on wild pitches to make it 12-10.
The CrossFit Royals promptly put their tying runs on base during this extra sixth inning.
However, winning pitcher Gullion stepped up to fire his fourth strikeout in two innings on the hill.
The next batter hit a grounder back to Gullion, and his ensuing smooth throw into first base finished this 12-10 Rockies triumph.
Lee Davidson’s two doubles, single and four RBIs helped My Family Vision form its 9-2 margin through the first two frames.
Waugh also doubled en route to scoring three runs. Gullion rounded the bases four times besides ripping two hits.
Reese Gillespie, Jacob Barber and Quinton Meyers added one run apiece for the Rockies.
Rakes’ homer, double and three RBIs topped the CrossFit Royals attack.
Besides a fun first game at Felling in 2020, McCook Midget Baseball Association Leaders praised fans for following the COVID-19 rules.
“Thank you to everyone that came out and made things go so smooth with all the new guidelines,” they remarked on Felling Field’s Facebook page.
