McCOOK, Neb. — Marshall D. Grant, a longtime resident of McCook, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home of McCook on May 29, 2020. He was 89 years of age. Marshall was born on April 1, 1931, in Omaha, Neb., to Carl and Lillie (Bengtson) Grant. He graduated from Omaha South High in 1948.

On July 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to Jean Jacobsen in Omaha. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1952. He joined the Nebraska Safety Patrol on Oct. 3, 1955. Marshall was first stationed in Broken Bow, Neb.. In 1966, he was promoted to Corporal and transferred to Holdrege, Neb. In 1969. he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to McCook. He retired on Oct. 4, 1985, after 30 years of service with the Nebraska State Patrol.

Marshall served on the McCook City Council. He was a member of the Methodist United Memorial Church in McCook. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of McCook Lodge 1434 and District Deputy to the Grand Lodge. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 135 AF & AM, York Rite – St. John Commandery No. 16, King Cyrus Chapter No. 35 and Occonoxee Council No. 16 of McCook, and Tehama Shrine, holding many offices. Marshall was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Omaha.

He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles McCook Aerie No. 2769, American Legion Post No. 203 and the Peace Officers Association of Nebraska.

Marshall enjoyed traveling, playing golf and bridge and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne Grant.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jean of McCook; son, Doug (Marilyn) Grant of Fort Collins, Colo., and daughter, Kathy (Jack) Karuzas of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

No viewing or visitation; cremation was chosen.

Due to Covid-19, memorial services will be at a later date and service information will be posted when available.

Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Transportation Fund of McCook or to a charity of the donor’s choice in Marshall’s name.
