McCOOK, Neb. — New McCook YMCA executive director/CEO Mitch Gross sent a message to members as his family has settled into the new hometown.

Gross accepted the offer to replace retired director Mike Gonzales last month. Mitch hadbeen Kansas’ Sunflower State Games director for the previous 14 years.

He is also the brother of McCook High principal and football coach Jeff Gross:

“Greetings! I’m taking this opportunity to introduce myself as your new CEO and Executive Director of the Ed Thomas YMCA in McCook.

I am extremely excited to be in McCook and looking forward to working on your behalf.

My family and I can’t wait to be a part of this community and begin cultivating relationships that will last a lifetime.

While I have only been here a short time, I can safely call McCook home thanks to the warm and generous welcome I have already received.

Although my initial plan of quickly getting out into the community to meet you and our partners has been delayed by the current state of affairs, it will not deter my enthusiasm and anticipation for connecting with you when the opportunity arises.

It has been motivating to learn about the rich history of the Ed Thomas YMCA in McCook and the many people who have made this organization a success.

It is my intent to work with you to continue building upon the great legacy that has been established to ensure that your YMCA is a pillar of the community for years to come.

Together, we will forge a path that will focus on how to better serve our members and the entire community.

Along the way I will learn about your needs, wants, and values. Your input and feedback will serve as the conduit that will enable our staff to provide you with quality experiences and tools in your pursuit of healthy living and personal development.

I realize that we are currently going through uncharted territory and facing many unknowns.

As we navigate these difficult times, I can only ask that you stick with us and know that we will be here for you as we return to normalcy.

I would like to thank you in advance for your continued support and for allowing me to be part of your community and YMCA family.”
