NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Freshman Ashlin Broz was three-for-three from three-point range in a 49-23 Maywood-Hayes Center playoff victory over Sandhills Valley Tuesday.

The Wolves (21-3 record) took a 17-10 lead through one quarter before holding those Mavericks to four, five and four points during those last three periods.

Junior Jaycee Widener’s 16 points and 10 rebounds were both team highs for this D1-10 subdistrict semifinal.

Senior Avery Johnson joined Broz in adding 12 points apiece with senior Jaycee Lapp scoring another five.

The Wolves advance to a colossal title game against 17-6 North Platte St. Patrick’s, who handled Overton 52-36 in Tuesday’s other semifinal.

St. Pat’s has been on a roll which included recent wins at both Dundy County-Stratton and RPAC tournament champion Cambridge.

No matter the outcome on Thursday, both M-HC and those Irish will be advancing into D-1 district title games.

Broz’s five assists were another Wolves highlight. They continue their quest to get through subdistricts, districts and into their first state tournament as a consolidated school.
