Jump Start offers training, grant to start childcare businesses
McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Economic Development Corp. has announced the New Childcare Provider Jump Start program. The program will provide a scholarship to take an online eight week course on how to run a childcare business. Upon successful completion of the course, individuals can apply for a $3,000 grant to start a childcare business in the McCook area.
“Improving access to quality childcare is a win for McCook in a variety of areas,” said Andy Long, MEDC Executive Director. “The most important time for brain development is during the first five years of life. By improving access to childcare we prepare our children for a successful future and we also allow parents who want to continue in the workplace that opportunity.”
This is one of three initiatives MEDC is undertaking to improve access to early childhood education. The other two are a full-ride scholarship for students studying and looking to remain in the area in early childhood education and an infant incentive to current providers to increase the number of infant spots available. Applications for the Childcare Jump Start Program are due February 25 and the class begins March 8. Additional information can be found at: or by calling MEDC at 308-345-1200.
