MH-C girls conquer tight Trail finale

McCOOK, Neb. — Freshman Ashlin Broz hit 12 of 13 free throws and Maywood-Hayes Center broke away to a 44-38 win over Decatur Community (Kan.) for the Cattle Trail consolation title on Saturday.

The teams were tied 27-27 through three quarters as Decatur (2-2) played its second consecutive tight thriller. The Red Devils lost 56-54 to eventual champ Dundy County-Stratton Friday evening.

Broz totaled 16 points, senor Jaycee Lapp 12 and junior Jaycee Widener added 10 points.

The Wolves’ 24 made free throws to Decatur’s eight decided this contest.

Senior Anna Carter totaled 21 points for Decatur to cap her strong tourney performance. Senior Kennedy Jensen added six points.

Roughriders win

Freshman Caylin Barnett’s 14 points led Southwest to a 41-35 win over Arapahoe in their Cattle Trail finale on Saturday.

Senoir Jadyn Brooks and junior Haylee Adams added eight points each.

Sophomore Hope Koller’s 12 points paced Arapahoe and senior Terri Hilker scored 11.

Raiders earn fifth

Junior Jessa Bailey (12 points) led Medicine Valley to a 32-30 win over Wauneta-Palisade in the Trail fifth-place game. The Raiders (3-2) earned a 39-34 win over Arapahoe on Friday.

Junior Acelyn Klein added seven points, freshman Milla Farr six, soph Kaylyn Roblee five and senior Sabra Schmidt two points.
