McCOOK, Neb. — Faye Arlene (Traphagan) Korell, McCook, died Aug. 10, 2019, at the Community Hospital in McCook at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Faye was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Red Willow County, northeast of McCook, to Fred A. and Mattie J. (Simmerman) Traphagan. She attended Red Willow School and then graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1943.

On Feb. 16, 1947, Faye was united in marriage to J. Frank Korell at the McCook Methodist Church. To this union three children were born: Bradley, Kerry and Kip. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were a source of extreme joy in her life. As a family they lived on farms around the McCook, Lebanon and Culbertson communities. Farming and appreciation of nature were a blessing for her. After Frank’s death, she married Delmere Thomas on Feb. 14, 1992.

Faye always said the most important decision she ever made was to accept Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord on Oct. 17, 1954. Her favorite Bible verses were Deuteronomy 31:8 “The Lord will never fail you” and the 23rd Psalm.

Faye was a member of the McCook and Culbertson Methodist Churches for over 60 years. She served on the Administrative Board, loved her 16 years of teaching children Catechism, worked for over eight years on the prayer chain and taught many years of Sunday school. She was also a member of the Jolly Janes Extension Club, Avenue of Flags, VFW Auxiliary and the YMCA Water Therapy Group.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Frank (June 23, 1988) and Delmere (Feb. 13, 2005); sisters, Dorothy and Bill Bortner and Verna and Edward Mackey; brothers, Marvin and Nellie Traphagan and Henry and Lois Traphagan; and two nephews, Jerry Traphagan and Dee Traphagan.

Faye is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren: Bradley and Dianna Korell of Lincoln, Neb., Melissa and Ben Wright of Soldotna, Alaska, John, George, James and Dianna, Kevin Korell, Lincoln, and Jacob, Ryan and Jacque Korell, Pueblo, Colo., and Skyler; Kerry and Michael Chrisman, North Platte, Neb.; Alan and Sandy Chrisman, North Platte, and Nathan, Colton and Danika; Aron and Megan Chrisman, Chadron, Neb., Cooper, Taryn and Kadee; Alesa Jones, Hershey, Neb., and Quinten; Kip Korell, McCook; Justin and Angie Korell, Watertown, S.D., Presten and Peyten; Brian and Sabrina Korell, McCook, Elena and Serenity; Kelsey and Matthew Esch, McCook, Hadley and Brynley; her brother, Gerald E. (Red) Traphagan, McCook; sister-in-law, Neva Jane Korell, Culbertson; along with a host of many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, 2 p.m., at Trinity Methodist Church in Culbertson, with the Rev. Alisa Parde officiating.

Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery, Culbertson.
