Oberlin man killed in collision

OBERLIN, Kan. — An 81-year-old Oberlin man died in the collision Wednesday, at 2:34 p.m., of his pickup and a semi truck at the junction of K123 and K383 at Dresden.

According to the accident investigation by Kansas Highway Patrol troopers, David L. Simpson had stopped northbound at the stop sign at the junction, but pulled out in front of the eastbound truck, which struck the driver's side of Simpson's pickup. Simpson was not wearing a seat belt and, upon impact, was partially ejected from his 2012 Ford pickup. Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 2013 Peterbilt truck, Roger D. Owens, 64, of Ravenna, Neb., was taken to Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin and treated for minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
