Chase boys top 226 in C-9 championship
BAYARD, Neb. — Chase County’s 226.5 points topped the next four teams combined while running away with the C-9 district/track field team title Thursday.
The other Longhorns from Kimball were a distant second, totaling 64 points.
Chase County high placers were literally everywhere and they won 10 of the 16 events.
Senior Kadin Verbas swept the sprints with his 100 (11.29 seconds) and 200 (22.84) victories.
Senior Scott Wheeler zoomed to a career-best 51.6 while winning the 400 besides an 800-meter title (2:04.64).
Clay Meeske’s 2:10.26 was another career best which gave Chase the top two 800-runners.
Senior Kalen Wallin also ran an all-time fastest 3200 meters of 10:30.58 for another championship.
Bo O’Neil, Wheeler, Chase Rowley and Vrgas teamed to win the 400-relay (44.54).
Wheeler, Taylor Jablonski, Logan Jussel and Cedric Maxwell were 1600-relay champs at 3:38.2.
Senior Evan Fisher took home both the shot put (45’10 1/2”, career best) and discus (130’5”0 titles.
Senior Parker Dillan cleared 19’5” which completed the 10 titles. All state qualifiers will be featured on Monday.
